What a fantastic idea! A nod to Eoin Purcell at Our Grannies’ Recipes, who is beavering away on an edited version of Maura Laverty’s Full and Plenty. We hope it shares the same success as Our Grannies’ Recipes and look forward to our own copy, complete with dog-ears through overuse! In his own words:
Classic Irish Cooking
In October this year, Mercier is publishing an edited volume of Recipes from Full & Plenty, a classic of Irish cooking written back in the late 1950s by Maura Laverty. I still have a copy of the original on loan on my shelf and I’m sure lots of other Irish families have at least one copy of the original or the later Anvil Press editions somewhere in their kitchens. Our book will be called Full & Plenty: Classic Irish Cooking.
Meanwhile here’s where you can get a copy of Our Grannies’ Recipes itself.
Even though Dubliner Cheese itself has been around only since 1996, the tradition and craft that we use to make it have been handed down for generations. That’s why it’s just perfect as a snack on its own or a top-notch ingredient for those who prepare food with real pride. Already a five times National Cheese Award winner, it’s got real tradition, quality and a taste for bygone simplicity going on behind that little red shop front.
We’re pleased that we’ve been able to blend lifetimes of experience into such a yummy product that has been a hit not just in Dublin and Ireland, but the US, Denmark, Belgium, Greece and Germany.
But really we won’t really be happy until there’s a little bit of a Dubliner in all of us, so come on world, you’re all invited to the Dubliner Cheese block party!
At Dubliner Cheese we had some fun recently with a trip or two down memory lane. If the Eighties were when you did your growing up, test the grey matter with our fun music quiz. It’s tougher than you think! (And in case you were wondering, no you can’t Google the answers. You couldn’t back then either!)

Even though the telly was in colour, Coronation Street didn’t look like anybody had told it. Tom Selleck’s superstar moustache needed its own chopper to get around in Magnum P.I. and a certain Hasselhoff was just beginning to inflic impose himself on the world in Knight Rider. No internet and no games consoles (Rubik’s Cube doesn’t count) so we must’ve stared at the TV about sixty times more intently than kids today. But what do you remember? Take the quiz and enjoy the memories.
